Position: 1D Simulation (TT46SI RM 4478)

Job purpose
The 1D System Simulation Engineer will be responsible for supporting the development, analysis, and validation of automotive powertrain thermal and fluid system simulation models. The role is primarily focused on 1D system simulation using Amesim and Simulink, with additional exposure to Stateflow and Simscape models. The candidate should have a strong understanding of automotive powertrain systems, thermal-fluid behaviour, hybrid / electric propulsion applications, and system integration aspects. The assignment is expected to support the BorgWarner MSA resource requirement with a project start timeline of September 2026, and suitable profiles are required on priority.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop, validate, and support 1D system simulation models for automotive powertrain thermal and fluid systems.
  • Work primarily on Amesim and Simulink based system simulation activities; Stateflow and Simscape exposure is also expected.
  • Support thermal and fluid system analysis for conventional, hybrid, and electric propulsion systems.
  • Understand and interpret powertrain system requirements, simulation inputs, operating conditions, and integration needs provided by engineering stakeholders.
  • Perform model setup, analysis, correlation support, model simplification, and simulation result interpretation for thermal-fluid system behaviour.
  • Collaborate with design, CAE, program, and client engineering teams to support system-level simulation deliverables.
  • Maintain simulation models, input files, versions, assumptions, and technical outputs using appropriate configuration management practices.
  • Prepare and communicate simulation findings through technical summaries, review discussions, and structured engineering reports.
  • Apply awareness of CFD and FEA models where required for understanding system behaviour; detailed CFD or FEA model development is not mandatory for this role.
  • Apply awareness of AI/ML based simulation methods where applicable; the role does not require building AI/ML models

What we are looking for

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Electrical / Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in development or simulation of thermal and fluid systems for automotive powertrain applications.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience or strong exposure to hybrid / electric propulsion systems.
  • Expert-level hands-on experience in Amesim and Simulink is mandatory.
  • Hands-on exposure to Stateflow and Simscape models is expected.
  • Strong understanding of automotive powertrain systems and integration aspects.
  • Awareness of CFD models, FEA models, thermal analysis, thermal component design optimisation, and model simplification.
  • Awareness of EV / Hybrid powertrain applications and AI/ML methods used for thermal and fluid system development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with client and internal engineering teams.
  • Self-motivated team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a flexible attitude towards work.

Preferred Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with additional simulation / modelling / analysis tools such as Simscape, Ansys, Motor-CAD, Mathcad, MASTA, MESYS, Altair Suite, or similar toolchains will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of GT-SUITE can be considered beneficial; however, GT-SUITE is not mandatory as per the current client clarification.
  • Experience in system-level simulation for electric propulsion, hybrid powertrain, power electronics cooling, battery thermal systems, or thermal-fluid network modelling will be preferred.
  • Experience in model validation, test data correlation, design optimisation, and technical documentation.
  • Working knowledge of configuration management tools and disciplined handling of model versions, input data, and simulation outputs.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while coordinating with cross-functional teams.
  • Availability or willingness to work from Bengaluru / Bangalore in a hybrid work arrangement
