Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Vehicle Ergonomics Engineer to join our team in Chennai. This role is critical in ensuring optimal human-machine interaction, comfort, usability, and safety within our vehicle designs. You will play a key part in designing interior layouts, controls, displays, and seating to enhance the overall user experience for drivers and passengers.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct vehicle ergonomics analysis and develop design specifications for interior and exterior interfaces.
- Apply ergonomic principles and human factors engineering to optimize packaging, visibility, reach, and posture.
- Utilize digital human modeling tools (e.g., RAMSIS, CATIA Human Builder, Jack) to evaluate and validate designs.
- Collaborate with design, styling, packaging, and HMI teams to integrate ergonomic considerations from concept to production.
- Support physical and virtual evaluations (e.g., buck builds, VR studies) to assess comfort and usability.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant ergonomic standards, regulations, and customer requirements.
- Identify and resolve ergonomic issues throughout the product development lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Ergonomics, Human Factors Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
- 1 to 7 years of experience in vehicle ergonomics or human factors engineering, preferably within the automotive industry.
- Strong understanding of anthropometry, biomechanics, and cognitive ergonomics.
- Proficiency with CAD software and digital human modeling tools.
- Ability to translate complex ergonomic data into practical design solutions.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Experience with user research, usability testing, and focus groups.
- Knowledge of automotive interior and exterior packaging constraints.
- Familiarity with HMI (Human Machine Interface) design principles.
- Experience with PDM/PLM systems.
