Position: Custom Design CAD Lead (SI80FT R 3838)
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Custom Design CAD Lead to drive the development and implementation of advanced CAD methodologies and automation solutions for state-of-the-art Mixed Signal IPs. This role will lead the development of sophisticated tools and flows using SKILL, SVRF, Perl, and Python to enable cutting-edge custom design capabilities for next-generation memory and storage solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Development
- Lead CAD Tool Development: Drive development of advanced custom design CAD tools and methodologies using SKILL programming, SVRF verification scripts, Perl automation, and Python frameworks
- Custom Design Flow Optimization: Architect and implement end-to-end custom design flows for analog, mixed-signal, and digital custom circuits
- Advanced Verification Methodologies: Develop sophisticated DRC/LVS/PEX verification flows using SVRF scripting and industry-standard tools (Calibre, ICV, etc.)
- Design Rule Management: Create and maintain complex design rule sets and verification decks for advanced process nodes (7nm, 5nm, 3nm and beyond)
Automation & Scripting Excellence
- SKILL Programming: Develop advanced SKILL-based automation for Cadence Virtuoso environments, design rule checks, and layout automation
- Python Framework Development: Build robust Python-based CAD infrastructure for design data management, flow orchestration, and design analytics
- Perl Automation: Maintain and enhance existing Perl-based legacy tools while migrating to modern Python frameworks
- API Integration: Develop seamless integrations between various EDA tools using appropriate scripting languages and APIs
Process & Methodology Innovation
- Advanced Node Enablement: Lead enablement efforts for cutting-edge process technologies and emerging design paradigms
- Custom Layout Automation: Develop intelligent layout generation and optimization algorithms for high-performance custom circuits
- Design Data Management: Implement sophisticated version control and design data management systems for custom design projects
- Performance Optimization: Drive continuous improvement in design productivity through innovative CAD solutions
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Technical Mentorship: Guide and mentor junior CAD engineers and custom design engineers on advanced scripting and methodology best practices
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Mixed Signal IP Team
- Vendor Relationships: Interface with EDA vendors to influence tool roadmaps and resolve complex technical issues
- Best Practices Development: Establish and evangelize CAD development standards and coding best practices
Education & Experience
- Education: Master’s or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
- Experience: 8+ years of experience in custom design CAD development with at least 3 years in a technical leadership role
Technical Expertise
- SKILL Programming: Expert-level proficiency in Cadence SKILL language with deep understanding of Virtuoso database structures and APIs
- SVRF Scripting: Advanced experience with SVRF rule file development for complex DRC/LVS verification flows
- Python Programming: Strong Python development skills with experience in frameworks like Django, Flask, or custom automation libraries
- Perl Scripting: Proficient in Perl for legacy tool maintenance and data processing applications
- EDA Tool Expertise: Deep knowledge of industry-standard tools including Cadence Virtuoso, Synopsys Custom Compiler, Mentor Calibre/Siemens EDA Process Technology: Experience with advanced process nodes (7nm and below) and emerging technologies
Design Knowledge
- Custom Circuit Design: Understanding of analog, mixed-signal, and high-speed digital custom circuit design principles
- Layout Techniques: Knowledge of advanced layout techniques for high-performance and low-power custom designs
- Verification Methodologies: Experience with comprehensive verification flows including parasitic extraction and circuit simulation
- Manufacturing Readiness: Understanding of DFM rules and manufacturability requirements for custom designs
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Scripting: Experience with additional languages such as TCL, Shell scripting, or JavaScript
- Machine Learning: Familiarity with ML/AI applications in EDA and design optimization
- Cloud Technologies: Experience with cloud-based CAD solutions and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Memory Design: Specific experience with flash memory Controllers
