Position: Durability Engineer / Analyst (TT17ST RM 3904)

Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Durability Engineer / Analyst to join our engineering team in Pune. This role is critical in ensuring the long-term performance, reliability, and structural integrity of our products throughout their intended lifespan. The successful candidate will be responsible for defining durability requirements, planning and executing durability analyses (both virtual and physical), and providing design recommendations to achieve optimal product lifespan and performance under various operating conditions. You will collaborate closely with design, CAE, testing, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust and reliable solutions.

Key Responsibilities
As a Durability Engineer / Analyst, your responsibilities will include:

  • Durability Requirements Definition: Define and translate functional requirements into measurable durability targets and specifications for components and systems, considering customer usage, environmental conditions, and regulatory standards.
  • Load Data Acquisition & Analysis: Analyse operational load data (e.g., strain, acceleration, force) from physical tests or virtual simulations to characterize real-world loading conditions.
  • Fatigue & Durability Analysis: Perform advanced fatigue and durability analyses using both analytical methods and CAE tools (FEA) to predict component and system life under cyclic loading, considering various failure modes.
  • Material Characterization: Understand and apply material properties, including fatigue strength, creep, and fracture mechanics, in durability assessments.
  • Test Plan Development & Execution: Develop comprehensive durability test plans (component, sub-system, and full-vehicle level), specify test setups, and support the execution of physical durability tests.
  • Correlation & Validation: Correlate simulation results with physical test data to validate CAE models and improve prediction accuracy.
  • Design Optimization: Work proactively with design engineers to identify potential durability issues early in the design cycle and propose robust design solutions, material selections, and manufacturing processes.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Conduct root cause analysis for durability failures observed during testing or in the field, and recommend effective corrective actions.
  • Standards & Methodologies: Contribute to the development and standardization of durability testing and analysis methodologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Technical Reporting: Prepare detailed technical reports, present findings, and communicate design recommendations to cross-functional teams and management.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • 3 to 8 years of experience in durability engineering, fatigue analysis, or structural integrity within the automotive, heavy equipment, aerospace, or similar industries.
  • Strong theoretical and practical understanding of fatigue theories (e.g., stress-life, strain-life), fracture mechanics, and damage accumulation.
  • Proficiency in performing FEA-based durability simulations using commercial software (e.g., Abaqus, Nastran, ANSYS) and post-processing tools (e.g., nCode DesignLife, MSC Fatigue).
  • Experience with load data acquisition, signal processing, and interpretation.
  • Familiarity with various durability testing standards and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Experience with multi-body dynamics (MBD) software (e.g., ADAMS) for load derivation.
  • Knowledge of optimization techniques for durability design.
  • Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems and product development processes.
  • Experience in a specific domain such as powertrain durability, chassis durability, body-in-white (BIW) durability, or battery system durability for EVs.
  • Exposure to reliability engineering concepts and tools.
  • Scripting skills (e.g., Python) for automation of analysis workflows.
